National Secular Society

July update

As schools break up for summer there's a slowdown in our casework. But we're working as hard as ever to make the case for an inclusive education system free from religious control. A big part of that is challenging the pro faith school myths, such as CofE schools not really being faith schools.

We've been working to support people challenging new faith schools at a local level. You can find out more in our guide to challenging a new faith school.

While ultimately we need to no more faith schools, reducing their direct harm is an important step. This month we've been making recommendations on faith free relationship & sex education, and examining the religious settlement in schools.

We know that integrated schools aren't a magic bullet to end sectarianism and segregation in our society, but we can't ignore the problems inherent in separating children by their religious backgrounds.

Thank you to everyone continuing to write to your MP, share the petition and spreading the message on social media. If you need resources or a No More Faith Schools speaker for a local group, please let us know. We think it's so important for this campaign to share stories of ordinary people affected by faith schools. For more information on how to get involved on the website.

Best wishes,

Alastair Lichten
